This past week Google has announced that TV View is their new default search result view for Google Video. This has implications for video marketing and search engine optimization.

Take a look at this search query for “Woodinville Wine”

As you see my test bed for SEO video, the “NW Wine Show”, now totally dominates the search query for “Woodinville Wine”.

The new format for Google Video TV rewards you as a marketer if you understand video metadata strategy, video syndication and other techniques.

As you see in the “Results for Woodinville Wine”, on the far right of the main video window, there is a “Related Videos” list. Again, the NW Wine Show has Total Domination here as well. Thus, a smart strategy is to create videos that are “Related” both at a metadata level and video content context level. Then you will be rewarded with extra Video Search Engine Results and Traffic.

The last key point to take away is that you should put money into making rich branded videos and put extra time into your indexing and “related” video strategy. We are now entering the web video stage where people all over the world are changing their media consumption patterns and shifting to the internet. Video is a rich media format that also lends to branding and provides a direct channel to your customer.

Another key point to learn is that Web Videos now show up in main Search Engine Result Pages. Google and the other web media companies want to train the market to consume internet video. Why? The big ad agencies and global brand marketers still have a lot of Advertising Budget trapped in the TV World where Video Ads Dominate. Thus, Google is now raiding this market and wants to own it

The next trick is how do you create a direct response with your videos to invoke action? With advanced web telephony systems, it is possible to connect this missing link from video to your mobile phone, skype, soft phone IP call, SIP, Chat, Video Conference, Web Automated Attendent, to close the loop. This is a MASSIVE OPPORTUNITY and is the missing link that Direct Response Marketers dream of at night.

Here are some photos for some very basic internet Video SEO experiments that I have created recently.

KEYWORD GOOGLE VIDEO SEARCH “WOODINVILLE WINE”

KEYWORD GOOGLE VIDEO SEARCH “WALLA WALLA WINE”

KEYWORD GOOGLE VIDEO SEARCH “SEATTLE, LIVE MUSIC”

Last week I had the chance to test out my new Canon HV-20 HD Camera at the Project Red Dress event. Here is a test video that I am using to learn the best compression settings for web shows.
Some of the audio seems a bit crunchy due to a hard space to mic. In addition when you set your audio levels in FCP or other, be aware that they are not too loud, as during compression they will peak out and cause distortion. More Project Red Dress video on the way, yes, including the actual fashion show.

My next door neighbor is a super nerd and super maven.

Smart, creative and he always has the new trick gadget. A week or so ago he invited me over to play with the Novint Falcon Haptics Controller.

This is a new type of computer interface (IE Mouse, JoyStick) that uses servos and custom software to provide you with “feed back” that relates to an object on your computer screen that you are manipulating or “touching” with the controller.

If you think about it, our current interface technology, “The Mouse” is actually decades old. Take a look at this video Matt and I shot to stimulate new ideas.

http://www.ventureallstars.com/video/Haptic.flv

My one thought is to map the Haptics Controller to say Ableton Live or other music program. The hack on the Novint API to connect via MIDI. Now you could actually create say a low bass wave form and add “3D feeling” charastics that control the wave form and perhaps other factors like volume, surround sound and more.

Drop a few of these in a club and then tie the wave form manipulation via haptics controller to a digital media asset, say a DRUM. Now you could feel the drum and effect the virtual drum shown on screen with the haptics controller.

If anyone has some nerd time to hack this out, ping me and we will have some beers and attack it with Matt. That’s the word “FEEL THE MUSIC”!

A client and family friend, Kathleen Miller has an interesting post on virtual worlds and infidelity. I believe we are in a media space where some people are getting a sucked into the virtual reality space as a way to escape what is happening in real life. I think we will soon see savvy divorce lawyers incorporate the spousal abuse of “fantasy lands” in their cases…
Here is part of Kathleen’s Article:

“You go online and create an entire new physical, emotional and financial identity for yourself - a virtual world that you control and manage. You can be handsome, slim, articulate, and more. This requires hours of your time - emotionally and physically. Is this Internet virtual infidelity an addiction? I say YES. “

We all know video games run on PCs or Consoles have superior graphics than web pages. We are now seeing some new technologies that when mashed together are creating the foundation for some “new media magic”. In this example we see the PAPERVISION 3D real time 3D Engine for Flash mashed together with the APE physic’s engine http://www.cove.org/ape/
Here is a great video example of mixing physics with Papervision3D. Visit http://blog.papervision3d.org/2007/08/21/magic-carpet/

Be sure to watch the end of this movie as well and notice the different states and effects that the demo covers in the movie. I think you can glean a lot of information from this video and see how this mix of technology will rapidly transform us into the 3D Web.

PS - if anyone has 3D chops and Flex, please let me know. I have a few ideas and want to create a small working group to innovate the new media space. Best, Tim
